NO6952 : Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla)

taken 8 years ago, near to Braehead, Angus, Scotland

Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla)
Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla)
Kittiwakes were among the seabirds that used to pack the cliffs at Red Head, at the south end of Lunan Bay. Those cliffs are now almost deserted, but a colony of Kittiwakes still nests on a sea stack at the north end of the bay. The juveniles have an irregular black strip along their wings, and the adult birds have plain grey wings with black tips.
