The War Memorial at Portpatrick
The War Memorial at Portpatrick
The Portpatrick war memorial stands at the road junction near the entrance to the village. It is in the form of a Celtic-style wheel cross on a tapering plinth with a three stepped base. There is a wreath in the centre of the cross head and Celtic tracery on the cross arms.

The inscription reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN HONOUR OF
THE MEN OF THIS PARISH
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE
GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918
(NAMES)
"DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI"

A lower panel contains the dates 1939 – 1945 followed by the list of names (see NX0054 : Portpatrick War Memorial, Dedication and List of Names).
