The setting is Renton Wood, and the piece of wood was on NS3878 : A path through the woods.

Each of the stalked orange blobs is a developing sporangium (spore-producing structure); when mature, in a day or two, they will be much the same shape (globose, on a stalk), but the colour will have changed, and they will no longer look glutinous. These ones became dark brown, and then, as the peridium (thin outer layer) broke up, became lighter: NS3878 : A slime mould - Trichia decipiens.
