Steam loco at Ferry Meadows on the Nene Valley Railway
British Railways steam locomotive no. 1501, a Great Western Railway (GWR) Class 1500 0-6-0 pannier tank engine, is shown here on the level crossing on Ham Lane just after departing Ferry Meadows station en route for Wansford on the Nene Valley Railway (NVR). The locomotive was built for BR's Western Region at Swindon Works in 1949. It was originally deployed for empty stock workings at London Paddington station before being sold to the National Coal Board (NCB) in 1961 following the introduction of diesel shunters. It was acquired by the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) in 1970. No. 1501 was on loan to the NVR when this image was taken.
