Opened in 1848 by the Caledonian Railway on what is now the Edinburgh to Glasgow line via Shotts
View north east towards Curriehill and Edinburgh. From 1855 to 1982 the station was known as Midcalder. From 1874 to 1943 it was also the junction for the Balerno loop line.
