Font, St Lawrence's Church
Font, St Lawrence's Church
The font dates from the 19th century. It is made of Frosterley marble, named after the location in Weardale, County Durham where the stone was quarried. It is not a true marble but a dark grey limestone containing fossilized corals, which can be cut and polished to decorative effect. For a close-up view of its appearance, see NZ0336 : Frosterley Marble .
