Belvoir Castle

Grade I listed.
Seat of the Dukes of Rutland for over 300 years, the present castle is the fourth building on the site. Designed mainly by James Wyatt around 1800. The castle stands in about 15,000 acres. See SK8039 for Bottesford Tombs.
There was originally a Norman castle here, and the manor was granted to Robert 1st Baron de Ros in 1257. The castle passed to George Manners in 1508. In the civil war it was a stronghold of the Kings supporters.
It is said that "afternoon tea" was established here.

The castle is open to the public, and is available for weddings and events, as well as shooting and fishing.
