Grinton Lead Smelting Mill
Grinton Lead Smelting Mill
The only smelt mill left standing in the Dales dates from about 1820 and has survived by being used for agricultural purposes after smelting ceased. The two ranges remaining are the mill itself furthest in photo and the peat store nearest. In the foreground is the remains of a flue up Sharrow hill to vent off the poisonous lead fumes.
