Arcon Mk V post-war pre-fab
The Arcon Mk V was one of the approved designs to cope with the post war housing crisis in war damaged cities with 39000 built between 1946 and 1949. The design comprises a steel frame with a twin skin of asbestos cement sheets and plasterboard lining. To the families that were re-housed the facilities and space provided would have been an improvement on bomb damaged inner city housing.

This example from Yardley, Birmingham, was brought to the museum in the early 1980s.
