Brighton Racecourse grandstand
Brighton Racecourse hosts flat races of up to one and a half miles. The course forms a figure like three sides of a square, sloping, with wide left-hand turns and an uphill finish in front of the grandstand. It is located on the Race Hill about two miles outside the centre of the town, between the suburbs of Whitehawk and Bevendean, with a well-positioned view over the town and the sea. The main portion of the course runs beside the road from the town centre to Woodingdean. The course was first used for races in 1783.
