St Andrew's church, Bonby

Grade II*listed

There is no mention of a church at Bonby in the Domesday Book of 1086, but a small church was established in the 12th century.
The church has a 12th century nave with 13th century and 15th century windows, a blocked north arcade and chancel arch from the 13th century, chancel and western tower. There was originally a south porch, but this was later removed. There are blocked doorways to the north and south of the nave.
The brick tower is from 1710 with a pyramidal roof. The two bay chancel is from the 18th century and also in brick. There are pantile roofs.

There was originally a 13th C. north arcade of four bays with octagonal and circular piers. This was subsequently blocked and the north aisle was demolished. There is now an incomplete arch running north at the eastern end. This was probably formed when an organ chamber was built in the 19th century. There is a single manual organ from 1915.

The font is 12th to 13th century with a square bowl.

The church was restored in the late 19th century by C. H. Fowler, and the nave gallery was removed. There is a little stained glass in the nave lancets.

Outside the church is a Lych Gate which was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1897.
