Eroding peat with fossil tree
Eroding peat with fossil tree
Part of an outcrop of "submerged forest" comprising a bed of peat with the waterlogged remains of trees which have fallen and been preserved. Rising sea level has resulted in erosion and uncovering from beneath subsequent deposits. See also SH7678 : Submerged forest.
