SP2970 : Traditional gypsy van – but on a trailer, Kenilworth Horse Fair
taken 9 years ago, near to Ashow, Warwickshire, England

The Horse Fair is a social and business occasion for the traveller community and similar groups. It is held three times a year, on a weekend in April, July and September. It is very much a traveller event - most people who attend the event are travellers / gypsies, and very few members of the general public go along. Riding and driving, buying and selling of horses mainly takes place on the Sunday. These photos were taken on the Saturday afternoon. Next year I will try to get there on the Sunday.
The site is a large field bounded by the Thickthorn estate, the Leamington Road, the A46 dual carriageway and farmland. There is plenty of space for caravans, weekend living, stalls, events and car parking. A development company has an option to buy the land and it is earmarked for development for housing and employment use in the District Local Plan. It is likely to be the next piece of land developed in Kenilworth.
