SJ9422 : The River Penk east of Stafford

taken 8 years ago, near to Weeping Cross, Staffordshire, England

The River Penk east of Stafford
The River Penk east of Stafford
This is about a mile east of Stafford town centre. Here the River Penk is on a course diverted along a former drainage ditch.

The new black painted 񊸶M 400 metre bridge across the flood plain of the Penk and Sow rivers is the Two Waters Way and allows pedestrians and cyclists a direct route between Baswich and Kingston Hill housing estates. It has yet to appear on maps or Google satellite images.

The Rivers Penk and Sow today have their confluence about a hundred metres past the bridge. This was not the case until after the 1970s flood control scheme. Cattle graze freely across the flood plain except during the winter, or when flood alerts are in place.
