Renovated around the turn of the century, Saltburn's pier is now well utilised by fishermen on evenings.
Saltburn Pier

Construction of Saltburn Pier started in December 1867. In May 1869 the 460m pier opened, with a steamer landing stage at its head. In October 1875 90m was removed from the end of the pier by a gale. A redeveloped pier of 380m (without a boat landing) was opened in 1877. Further damage throughout the 20th century eventually reduced its length to 340m. In 1975 the local council wanted the pier demolished. A campaign saved it and it reopened after a refurbishment in June 1978 with a length of 280m. A further refurbishment led to its reopening as a Grade II* listed structure in July 2001.
