Old Head Signal Tower
At the beginning of the 19th. century, fears of French action and of political unrest in Ireland, caused the British authorities to build a series of signal towers along Ireland's coastline.
Between 1804 and 1806, eighty one signal towers were built southwards round the coast from Pigeon House Fort in Dublin (no. 1) all the way to Malin Head in Donegal. Old Head Signal Tower was number twenty five.
