The present Croft Castle is not medieval but dates from the early 17th century, the Croft family have lived here for much of the last 1000 years appear from a hiatus between 1746, when Sir Archer Croft was forced to sell as a result of the South Sea Bubble, and 1923 when the family were able to buy it back. Today it is in the care of the National Trust.
