Save Jim’s Farm
Save Jim’s Farm
The farm is at Old Pentland, and Jim is an 82-yr-old tenant farmer who was given notice to vacate the farm so that a £150 million a major film studio complex and power station could be built on 35 ha [86 acres] of farm land between Damhead and Straiton. Midlothian Council and the local community rejected the planning proposal, but the developers have referred it to the Scottish Government as of National Importance. It is reported that the Gas, Chip and Pellet fired Power Station will generate 60 million watts and emissions over 1,000 times more than the National Upper Limit set by Air Quality Scotland.
3 October 2018 up-date. The Scottish Government approved the development, but the Scottish Land Court overruled the proposal, on the grounds that taking back the tenancy could not be said to be for the good of the whole estate. LinkExternal link
