Fairfield Moravian Church
Fairfield Moravian Church
The church (and its attached manse) dates from ca1785 and formed the centrepiece of the Fairfield Moravian Settlement which was planned around a square, with the church facing south over an avenue of trees, graveyards and gardens. It is a grade II* listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1067981 LinkExternal link Heritage Gateway).
Fairfield Moravian Settlement
The Unitas Fratrum (Moravian Church) was founded in what is now the Czech Republic by followers of the reformer, John Huss. It claims to be the oldest protestant movement in Europe and was a pioneer of protestant missions.

Fairfield was the last of the Moravian settlements in England established in the 18th century, the original being Fulneck near Bradford in Yorkshire. The Moravians settled at Fairfield when the Church, Sistersí House and Brethrenísí House were formally opened in 1783, the Settlement having been planned and built by members of the Moravian congregation who had been previously located in Dukinfield. The Settlement was self-contained and self-governed by its community.

The settlement was scheduled as a place of Historic Interest in 1966 and several of the buildings are scheduled as Grade II listed buildings.
