Settle to Carlisle railway line
The Settle to Carlisle Line is a 73 mile long main railway line in northern England. It was constructed in the 1870s. It is generally recognised as one of the most attractive railway lines in the country as it crosses the Yorkshire Dales.

Arten Gill Viaduct
11 arches, 117 ft high, 220 yards long.
Arten Gill Viaduct is built of massive blocks of Dent ‘marble’, from the now-disused quarries nearby. This stone was popular for use in ornamental masonry and was remarkable for its wealth of fossils.
The viaduct carries the Settle to Carlisle line over Arten Gill Beck.
