ST1990 : Byway, Craig-goch
taken 7 years ago, near to Trethomas, Caerphilly/Caerffili, Wales
A 14 mile circular walk around the Sirhowy and Ebbw Valleys, Caerphilly County. The walk mainly follows footpaths, bridleways and cycleways, including some steep climbs, woodlands, farmland and hilltops. It passes through Risca, Cwmcarn and Ynysddu on the floor of the valleys, Mynyddislwyn on the ridge between them, and ascends Mynydd Machen on the ridge above Risca. There are four metal sculpture of ravens along the route. There are discrepancies between the current and older OS maps for some short sections of the designated route.
A 26 mile walk in the west of the former county of Gwent from the Aneurin Bevan Memorial, Tredegar to Tredegar House, Newport. The route follows the ridgeways and valley floors through three counties, mainly off road and never far from the Sirhowy or Ebbw Rivers or the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal (Crumlin Arm).
The route has been extended from Tredegar House south eastwards to join the Wales Coast Path at Lighthouse Road and follows the Path on the Wentlooge Levels as far as West Usk Lighthouse.
