Continental stained glass in Hingham St Andrew's church

The windows of St Andrew's church contain stained glass dating from the Victorian era and mainly unremarkable. The east window is a notable exception and is described by stained glass expert David King as containing "the most impressive display of imported foreign glass in a county rich in this field". Most of the glass originates from Germany and dates from the early 16th century work. It is believed to have been imported by John Christopher Hampp of Norwich and a stonework frame had to be specially made to accommodate it.

The figures of St Thomas holding a carpenter's square and St Anne, who holds the Virgin Mary with the baby Christ in her arms, can be seen in the centre panels. The six side lights contain four main scenes: the Crucifixion at top left above the Deposition, and to the right the Ascension over the Resurrection. The central figure in the tracery lights is a male unidentified saint flanked by kneeling knights and angels.
