This is Gasholder Number 5 at the former Aylestone Road Gas Works, it is located next to the Grand Union Canal, and was one of two gasholders in the process of being demolished.
Gasholder Number 5 was a 4 lift spiral guided holder built in 1930. It was 65 metres in diameter and when fully inflated was 61 metres high. The structure weighed 2,540 tonnes but also contained 41,657 tonnes of water.
