The Marine Policing Unit forms part of the Operational Support Division of Police Scotland.
The Unit is strategically located across four sites in Scotland:
• Bucksburn Police Station, Aberdeen (Dedicated Dive and Marine)
• Greenock Community Fire Station, Rue End Street Greenock (Dedicated Dive and Marine)
• Fettes Avenue, Edinburgh (Non-dedicated Marine officers only)
• Dundee, Baluniefield (Non-dedicated Marine officers only)
The primary function of the Marine Unit is to support operational policing by providing a capability to conduct searches on water, under water and within confined spaces.
This support includes:
• Missing person search/body recovery
• Property search/recovery
• Intelligence led searches
• Counter Terrorist (CT) security searches;
• Marine patrol
• Flood assistance in support of the Fire and Rescue Service
• Underwater Scenes of crime photography/video
• Waterborne security at high profile events
• Search/recovery in a confined space environment
• Examination of equipment in Diving Fatalities
• Operation of the Police Scotland Dive School
