NY8356 : Deneholme Wood

taken 9 years ago, near to Allendale Town, Northumberland, England

Deneholme Wood
Deneholme Wood
Beyond the gate on the left is a narrow, steep-sided, heavily wooded valley or dene.

In Edwardian times, the dene was transformed into a pleasure garden with footpaths, five bridges over the Philip Burn, and carefully framed views.

New permissive paths have recently been opened, providing access through Deneholme Wood, by agreement with Fawside (Allendale's community charity LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) ), Allendale Estate and Beck's Training Ltd LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) (based at NY8356 : Deneholme).

See NY8356 : Information board about Deneholme Wood and NY8356 : Plaque re Deneholme Wood.
