Danger Zone
Danger Zone
Unusually, part of the ironstone deposits near Holwell were extracted in the 1930s onwards by underground mining rather than using the normal opencast method. This has resulted over the years in a number of collapses in the area, hence the notice. Older OS maps show large numbers of ponds in the area where these collapses have taken place.
