Unusually, part of the ironstone deposits near Holwell were extracted in the 1930s onwards by underground mining rather than using the normal opencast method. This has resulted over the years in a number of collapses in the area, hence the notice. Older OS maps show large numbers of ponds in the area where these collapses have taken place.
