When I was at school I remember learning that there were a hundred churches in the City of London before the Great Fire of 1666. Then you start thinking: that can't be true, can it? I do recall, however, from my reading of the great diarist how often he mentions one. So, one gloomy November Sunday I set off to see how many sites I could find...
