The Radical Steps, Kirkby Lonsdale
According to a nearby information board: In 1820 Dr Francis Pearson, who held very strong Liberal views, obtained an order of Quarter Sessions to divert the public footpath that ran through his garden at Abbots Brow. There was a great deal of local opposition to this at the time and as a result the flight of steps that replaced the footpath became known as the Radical Steps by reason of Dr Pearson's Radical politics
