This memorial is for 11 children who died before putting on a show on New Year's Day, 1891 when their costumes caught fire. The inscription reads:

To the glory of god,
and in loving memory of eleven children,
who lost their lives through accident by fire,
In Wortley church school,
New Years Day 1891.
