Western Lawns, Hove
The eastern end of the Western Lawns that abut onto Hove Street South. This large open space is often used by visiting circuses. The area south of Kingsway was acquired and landscaped by Hove borough council in 1895 having previously been owned by the manor of Lancing who had, since the middle ages, claimed all the foreshore formed by a spit that had forced the mouth of the River Adur eastwards as far as Aldrington. In the distance is the King Alfred Leisure Centre which is due at some point in the future to be demolished though it has yet to be decided what will actually replace it.
