The Nationwide has now moved to new premises at the corner of Donegall Square North and Donegall Place (once the site of H Samuel’s Belfast branch) J3374 : New Nationwide branch, Belfast (December 2016). Removal of the society’s signs discloses the imprint of a former sign reading “Workshops for the Blind” J3373 : "Workshops for the Blind" sign, Belfast (December 2016). I’d forgotten, but now remember, that this was the site of the shop retailing goods made in the workshops at Lawnbrook Avenue Link. Now known as Ulster Sheltered Employment Link

The proposed Scottish Mutual hotel site, Belfast
An imposing sandstone, turreted structure at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, the Scottish Temperance (later Scottish Mutual) Buildings were built in 1904 to a design by Henry Seaver and remain “as built”. It was reported (July 2013) that the intention is to convert the building into a hotel incorporating ground-floor bars and restaurants.
