Cotswold bus stop - Brimpsfield, Gloucestershire
Here in this Gloucestershire village of Brimpsfield, only just visible in this photo, is the village bus stop. No bus shelter though, so I suppose failing an umbrella, would-be passengers have to take shelter in the telephone box. The village is not what anyone might call a transport hub - three or four buses daily Monday to Friday and three in each direction on a Saturday. There seems to be considerable talk about the general health and welfare of the population, but I hear recently that our Government is considering abandoning the bus pass scheme because of the cost of providing it. Actions speak louder than a whole library of fine words - I hope the scheme will continue as many people would be affected by its being stopped. Fewer passengers on bus services too? The real, unquantifiable, cost might be enormous. I might be spoilt here - buses past the door every few minutes from very early morning till midnight - but I still miss my 30 years in Gloucestershire and the many friends I had there. Time photo taken 5.00 pm BST (British Summer Time).
