Liverpool Bay, Crosby Channel Cardinal Marker C5
A cardinal mark is a sea mark (a buoy or other floating or fixed structure) used in maritime pilotage to indicate the position of a hazard and the direction of safe water. The direction of its two conical top-marks indicates the safest side to pass. In this case, both top marks are pointing upwards which indicates that ships should pass on the north side of the buoy LinkExternal link (Cardinal Mark, Wikipedia).

This buoy (C5) in the Crosby Channel, is shown at position 5331.6N, 38.7W (approx, +/- 50m) on navigation charts. Some of the turbine foundations for the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm extension, for which construction began in June 2016, can be seen on the sandbanks beyond the buoy. The turbines in the distance are part of the Gwynt y Mr offshore windfarm.
