Holy Island history in one view
The churchyard probably dates back to the time of the early Saxon church on the site. Looking between the ruinous elements of the later medieval monastery can be seen Lindisfarne Castle, important for both its medieval and early 20th century history, with boats on the harbour representing the fishing trade which sustained the island over the centuries.
Holy Island (Lindisfarne) :: NU1242
