Harlaw Hill Limekiln
Harlaw Hill Limekiln
The name is the one used in the Historic England record, but it is named as Pepperwood Quarry in the Keys to the Past website (covering Northumberland and Durham historic sites) LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) and Denwick Lane End in David Kitching's limekiln database LinkExternal link . Reference to old OS maps suggests that the Harlaw Hill name is the most appropriate one. Although a Listed Grade II structure, it continues to deteriorate, with the arch over the north facing drawhole having collapsed since 2012 Link It is thought to date from the end of the 18th century.
