NY2213 : Descending Honister Pass

taken 52 years ago, near to Seathwaite, Cumbria, England

Descending Honister Pass
Descending Honister Pass
Dutch lorry and trailer at the top of Honister Pass (B5289), just beginning the descent to Borrowdale (very steep, narrow and twisty!).
Apparently, during a dock strike, he had come across on one of the early RO-RO ferries full of tomatoes and had then come on to Honister quarry for a load of slate. I was so 'gob-smacked' to see it that I only just thought to grab the camera in time.
Scanned Kodachrome II slide, Zeiss Contaflex camera with 135mm telephoto lens.
