taken 8 years ago, near to Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland
The original Portobello High School was built in the 1970s, a stark 9-storey glass and concrete tower block of the time, with lower buildings around it, on Duddingston Road. In about 2006 it was proposed to replace it with a new school and work began on its construction in October 2014, on a park site on Milton Road, just under a kilometre to the southeast. Built by Balfour Beatty Ltd, the new school opened in October 2016 Link Link . The use of open space park land was not popular with the local community, but a new park, and primary school, are to be built on the site of the old school, which is in the process of demolition [Jan. 2017]
