Ryhope railway station (site), County Durham
Opened in 1894 by the North Eastern Railway on the line from Sunderland to Durham, this station replaced an earlier 1836 one c.250m further around the curve, just out of view. This station closed to passengers in 1953 and completely in 1964.
View north east towards Hendon Burn and Sunderland. The former line here was a footpath when this image was taken with only the old footbridge surviving. For more information, see LinkExternal link.
This was the more westerly of the two stations in Ryhope - Ryhope East railway station was only 150m away, on the Londonderry Seaham and Sunderland Railway. See NZ4152 : Ryhope (East) railway station (site), County Durham.
