Craigsbank Parish Church

A square flat-roofed A-listed church, designed by Sir William Kininmonth in 1964-66, to functionally replace the original and adjacent 1937 church, which is now used as church halls LinkExternal link . It appears to have only one small window, but added light enters through an inverted clerestorey. There is a semicircular entrance, with heavy timber doors, and open semicircular bell tower. The design follows the principles of the Liturgical Movement, with its enclosed form and sunken nave, reportedly inspired by the conventicle churches and hillside hollows used by the Covenanters in the 17th Century.
