Geograph - photograph every grid square

Carlisle Canal

This is the partly silt-choked end of the Carlisle Canal which, for about 30 years, provided a means of transporting goods between the sea and the city of Carlisle. There isn't a lot of it left, because parts of it were built on by the railway, but the masonry is obvious here.
