Common Farm (farmhouse)
On the edge of Dunston Common. In the old days the farm was known as Dunston Dairy Farm. The red brick farmhouse has three bays, two storeys and an attic with three gabled dormer windows. The central entrance door has a pedimented hood. The first floor casement windows are believed to be original dating from the 18th century at least. The bricks are described as being a mixture of diagonal and horizontal skintlings and believed by some to date from around 1760, but others have suggested a date between 1775 and 1780. The house is Grade II listed.
Dunston Common extends over 2.3ha (5.68 acres) or land and is managed by the Norwich Fringe Project. It comprises a large open area of grassland in the east and an area of semi-mature woodland in the west, where there is a good selection of veteran and mature trees. The current management involves birch and sycamore thinning and replanting with hazel, holly, rowan and oak.
