Air Ambulance arriving at Kilmalid
Air Ambulance arriving at Kilmalid
The view is from near the site entrance of the bottling plant at Kilmalid, shortly before noon; I happened to be passing, outbound on an excursion, while a drama was unfolding.

A number of emergency vehicles had already arrived, and they were soon augmented by the Scottish Ambulance Service helicopter (registration G-SASS) that can be seen here; it had just passed overhead.

Later in the day, when I was submitting this picture, news reports stated that an industrial accident had occurred, and that, although there had been no fatalities, a man who had been trapped under machinery was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Kilmalid bottling and blending plant
The blending plant built by Hiram Walker (Scotland) at Kilmalid, near Dumbarton, opened in 1977, and was said to be the most advanced in Europe. A few years later, a bottling plant was also built here; it went into operation in August 1982. Later, after various takeovers and mergers, the company operating the site was called Chivas Brothers (part of Pernod Ricard). Towards the end of 2016, Chivas Brothers announced that it was closing its operations at Paisley, but investing in an expansion of the Kilmalid site; jobs from Paisley were to be transferred there. It was intended that the expansion work at Kilmalid be completed in 2019.
Vale of Leven Industrial Estate :: NS3978
Of the very extensive lands that came to be associated with Strathleven House Link a portion was compulsorily purchased by the Board of Trade in 1947, and was developed by Scottish Industrial Estates Ltd in 1948 to form the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate. At the estate's inception, Westclox Ltd and Burroughs Adding Machines had factories here, but they are now gone. Polaroid, a later arrival, lasted until 2017. The estate is used by a number of smaller businesses, and there are some vehicle depots.
