Agecroft Number 1 was one of three steam locomotives were built by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1948 to shunt coal wagons between the colliery and power station at Agecroft. After being retired in the early 1980s, Agecroft No 1 was saved from scrapping by being bought by a private owner. It was purchased by the Museum of Science and Industry in a dismantled state in 2008, where it underwent a 3-year restoration and is now housed in the Power Hall and used to provide steam train rides in the yard of the former Liverpool Road Station. CEGB 0-4-0 battery Locomotive, GWR No 258 can be seen to the right hand side (see SJ8397 : Museum of Science and Industry, GEGB Locomotive for a closer view of this locomotive which worked at nearby Kearsley)
