Former Fishing Station, Big Sand
Former Fishing Station, Big Sand
This fisherman's bothy would probably have been used during the salmon season when the salmon are migrating along the coast to their river of where they were spawned. The fish would have been trapped using nets set perpendicular to the coast. There is a restored bothy at Clachtol in Assynt (NC0327 : Am Bearag, The Salmon Bothy). The bothy is not entirely derelict and shows signs of some maintenance and occupation although the poles for drying the nets are all collapsed and the boat winch is rusted up.
