Fawley electricity substations
Fawley electricity substations
The building at left is the National Grid 400 KV electricity substation which is fed by the pylons. It was formerly also fed from the now disused Fawley Power Station off-picture right. It is also connected via undersea cables across the Solent to Chilling, and thence to Botley Wood and Lovedean National Grid substations.

In front of this building are 400/132KV transformers which deliver power to SSE locally to Fawley Oil Refinery and also to Langley substation (and thence to the Isle of Wight). In particular, I think, the building between the pylons is SSE's Fawley 132KV substation.

In foreground is bare ground left following demolition of oil tanks formerly used by the disused Fawley Power Station.
