Washing lines in Pimlico
Washing lines in Pimlico
These washing lines, set in a 'moat' alongside Wilkie House in the Millbank estate have been there since this forward-thinking LCC housing scheme was built around the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. Located at the corner of Sir John Islip St and Cureton St they are still in regular use and are something of a surprise to come upon en route to Tate Britain. In 2013 residents put up a spirited campaign to retain the washing lines after their landlords unilaterally decided to replace them with rotary driers, and their efforts garnered considerable publicity and support, see LinkExternal link
