Catholic parish church of St Hugh of Lincoln
Catholic parish church of St Hugh of Lincoln
St Hugh was born c.1135 and died in 1200; he was canonised in 1220. He was the Bishop of Lincoln, and a very able and courageous man who stood up to Henry II, and later Richard I when he demanded money to help fund his wars, and won their admiration. His emblem was a swan, as depicted by the sculpture in the foreground.
