Opened in 1858 as "Newington Road & Balls Pond" on the North London Railway's line from Dalston to Willesden Junction, this station was renamed Canonbury in 1870. It was replaced later in 1870 by the current Canonbury station, some 350m behind the camera position (see TQ3285 : Canonbury railway station, Greater London, 2010].
View E from the Newington Green Road overbridge. No trace remains. Just beyond the next road bridge was the site of Mildmay Park station (1880-1934). See TQ3285 : Mildmay Park railway station (site), Greater London.
