Former bus garage in Cleveland Road, Wolverhampton
Looking south-east along Cleveland Road from near Ring Road St George.
Demolition of this building has already commenced internally.
Cleveland Road was isolated from the city centre when the ring road was constructed in the early 1970s. The former Edwardian bus/tram depot from 1902 was replaced a few years later (1977) by this very plain red brick building. This in turn closed down some years ago when Travel West Midlands went to Park Lane, and was used for various purposes including some very interesting old bus restoration. (See Lady Wulfrun's portfolio on Flickr).
The whole area further down the road has been blighted since the closure of the Royal Hospital nearby in 1997, and the subsequent fiasco involving Tesco not developing the site as planned.
