Book Festival in Charlotte Square
Book Festival in Charlotte Square
It's August, it's Edinburgh, so it must be Festival time. This photo shows some of the tents which are erected each year in Charlotte Square to accommodate the International Book Festival. Overseeing the activities, astride his horse, is Prince Albert. The statue was funded by public subscription as a Scottish National Memorial to the Prince, and its inauguration was attended by Queen Victoria in 1876. David Bryce designed the statue, and it was sculpted by Sir John Steell, who was knighted at the opening ceremony.
